Friday’s Face: Jiji

What’s the coolest thing you did in school this week, Jiji?
“I did a play with Anna W., Declan, Galen, Seldoen and Anna B. The play was about Jake Drake Teacher’s Pet (the book) with six different scenes, but short. It was so fun.” (Jiji is in Ms. Alicia’s fourth-grade class.)

Compost Anyone?

David and Sara wait to show off the new compost container for the cafeteria. They also told the kids that milk and juice cartons now go into the compost.

Help the Fifth Graders Collect Spare Change

We’re raising money for our adult spelling bee team. Kids and adults are invited to bring change and drop it into the jar before or after school.

Can You Spell Perpendicular?

Karen Keller and Becca Gergely did! They are part of our adult spelling bee team and they took words from kids at morning program today. Here Karen demonstrates the meaning of perpendicular:

What’s the coolest thing you did in school this week, Bitzy?
“Being in P.E., I was playing a game — football tag.” (Bitzy is in Ms. Humble’s kindergarten class.)

Friday’s Face: Tara

What’s the coolest thing you did in school this week, Tara?
“In art, we did a collage. A crazy one with jewels, feathers and paper.” She enjoys collage “because I like gluing stuff.” (Tara is in Mr. Bell’s first-grade class.)

The Latest on the Lobby Makeover

Here is an update on the progress made toward creating a more welcoming school lobby. If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please feel free to contact Jen Demarest (vp@fallcreekpta.org).

Changes so far:

1. Blackboard paint “Welcoming” sign – we will need volunteer “artists” to create new signs for any special or upcoming events throughout the year… contact Jen Demarest if you are interested in helping.
2. NEW Lost and Found – thanks to David Moreland’s idea for a rolling rack the lost items of clothing are easier to spot for both parents and children. * Please note that the clothes will be taken to the Salvation Army monthly if not claimed… so check frequently! On the last Friday morning program of each month there will be a chance for students to visually see the items and claim any that might be theirs.
3. Help our one lonely plant – It will have a home eventually when our seating area arrives (see below for more details) I do need someone to claim this plant as their own and care for it…water, prune, repot, etc. If anyone would like to take this on please contact Jen Demarest.

Changes to come:

1. New seating arrangement – Karen Keller and I have picked out four chairs and an end table to occupy the South West corner of the lobby. We are waiting on approval and delivery. Hopefully, before Thanksgiving.
2. This upcoming Summer there will be some major construction and reconfiguration to the lobby… this has left us “on hold” for any other major adjustments until we can see what we will be dealing with. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please feel free to contact Karen Keller or Jen Demarest

Halloween Comes to the Garden

Check out the decorations in the Butterfly Garden! Pumpkins, scarecrows and a teepee help bring the Halloween spirit to the front of the school.

Friday’s Face: Sean

What’s the coolest thing you did in school this week, Sean?
“This shiny new pencil I got from my teacher for doing a good job.” Sean and his teacher made up a story about two cats playing. He also found a toy on top of the trash can on the playground. “It must be my lucky day,” he said (Sean is in Ms. Langdo’s third-grade class.)
