Albany Write-a-Thon starts NOW

Inspired by Fall Creek School’s successful Read-a-thon, when 210 students met their goal of reading 30,000 picture books (and chapters of longer books) in the month of January, the Fall Creek PTA is launching an Albany Write-a-thon this weekend, as part of our efforts to save our school from being dismantled by District budget cuts.

This is an action you can take right away to support Fall Creek school, and our District.  You can download the address list and sample letter from the Fall Creek PTA website.

Our goal is to have 500 people contact our elected representatives in Albany to communicate the message that Education and our Public Schools should be a priority in the state budget, especially in lower income and rural communities of New York State. We want to put a human face on the numbers, so politicians understand how important our students and our schools are to the strength of our state.

Parents, students, Fall Creek neighbors and all citizens of the larger community are invited to participate in our Write-a-thon.

You can write an e-mail, write a letter or even draw a picture or cartoon and send it to Governor Paterson, our State Senators and/or our State Assembly Members. By generating a big outpouring of letters all at once, a small community can have a big impact.

Information on how to contact these individuals can easily be found online. Simply download the list of names and addresses of our Albany representatives mentioned above. You can also go to the Ithaca City School District website www.icsd.k12.ny.us, where a click on the Budget tab will give you a page of links to each of our elected officials. Look for the Contact section on each of those websites to get addresses.

Once you’ve sent a letter or e-mail, let us know, so you can be counted toward our goal of 500 people writing to Albany. Tell us by sending us an ”I did it” e-mail to AlbanyWriteathon@fallcreekpta.org.

We will announce the results of our Write-a-thon next Friday, Feb. 12.

Please forward this to friends and neighbors, inviting them to write a letter and be counted!

This effort is being initiated by Sara Culotta, Fall Creek parent and PTA member.
