Family Community Dance – Thurs Feb 4th

Put on your dancing shoes and come join the Family Community Dance in the Fall Creek gym!

Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 6:15 – 8pm

with dance leader Vikki Armstrong and live music by the Contradictions

Come out and join in the fun as we celebrate this year’s theme of Canadian dance traditions!  Learn new dances and enjoy the music!  Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult.

For a number of years now, music teacher Louise Yavalow has engaged Vikki Armstrong for an intensive two week dance residency which culminates in an evening Family Community Dance with a live band. For the past few years, Louise and Vikki have written and received IPEI grants to cover approximately 50% of the cost.  For more information on the dance residency be sure to take a look at the bulletin board in the hallway outside the gym.

Volunteers are still needed for the dance evening itself: food & refreshments, decorating, hall patrol, photography, and clean up.  A sign-up sheet is available on the PTA bulletin board in the main hallway at school or send an email to the address below.

If you are able to help with food, we would like to find Canadian noshings to go along with this year’s theme (though we certainly welcome any food that folks can provide).  Some possible ideas include: ice cream with maple syrup, cranberry juice, blueberry & cranberry muffins or other blueberry desserts, tourtiere pie, nanaimo bars, poutine, fiddleheads or even salmon.

Likewise, Canadian themed decorations such as maple leaf flags would be a welcome addition to the dance!  Do you have anything you can contribute to make the gym more festive?

For more information or to volunteer, contact Mike Charnoky at dance@fallcreekpta.org

The Contradictions will be performing for the Family Community Dance: Vikki is on the right. The band offers an eclectic mix of fiddle tunes and songs from American and European traditions. (Besides Vikki, who calls dances, they include: Laurie Hart on fiddle, Rick Manning on fiddle, mandolin and vocals, Tom Hodgson on guitar and Dave Davies on bass and vocals.)

Fall Creek Ice Skaking at Cass Park

Once a week for five weeks this winter, students at Fall Creek will be able to skate at Cass Park with their classmates after school.  Skaters board a bus at Fall Creek Elementary School at 2pm, and along with adult chaperones, are transported to Cass Park Ice Rink,  After an hour and a half of ice time, skaters return to Fall Creek School around 4:20pm and are picked up by their parents/guardians.  Students enrolled in Fall Creek’s Afterschool Program will be sent there for normal pick-up.

The dates of the program are Thursdays, beginning January 28 through February 25th.  The program is open to all students K-5th grade.  Skate rentals are available through Cass Park Ice Rink.

More information and a registration form will be sent home next week in Thursday folders.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, contact Jane Cullings at pjcullings@aol.com, or 319-0150.

The ice skating registration form is available here for download.

Hilby Bake Sale at the Hilby Show!

Hilby Bake Sale:
Calling all Fall Creek Bakers & Helpers!
The PTA needs people to create tasty treats to sell @ the Hilby Show fund raiser next SATURDAY, NOV. 14th!
For goodies, we need items individually wrapped in amounts you’d expect to pay about $1.  So, 2 cupcakes or small muffins, 4-5 cookies, a couple of med. sized brownies, a couple of doughnuts, etc per baggie would be great!
Also, in the past, we’ve had success with baggies of popcorn or cereal mix like Chex Mix or reindeer food.  We like to try to avoid nuts, or at least make a point of labeling when a food contains any kind of nuts/peanuts or a nut-butter.
There will be a table in the school lobby on Thursday & on Friday (for parent-teacher conferences) on which you can place your donations, or you can bring them to the table @ the State Theatre if you’re planning to attend the Hilby fund raiser.
WE ALSO NEED VENDORS to help sell our tasty treats & merchandise in the lobby!  Please use the contact below ASAP to sign up!
If you have any questions at all, please contact Mary Waisbrot @ 277-6380 or mwaisbro@twcny.rr.com
Thanks for your help & support!
