The Fall Creek PTA would like to thank everyone involved in this weekend’s activities – the Hilby show at the State Theatre and the IPEI Spelling Bee at the high school.
The State Theatre show sold out, as did all our bake sale offerings. The final amount raised isn’t available yet, but looks to have topped what we raised last year ($3,600) by several hundred dollars. Thank you to Hilby, John Higby, and Nate the Great for donating their talents to the show and to David Moreland, Mary Waisbrot, and Sally Butterfield for their organizational talents.
Our spellers, the Fall Creek Stingers, made it to the championship round for the second year in a row, but were tripped up by “cis,” which refers to a certain configuration of molecule. Thanks to Mary Ann Erickson, Tom Clavel, and Karen Keller for joining the team and to Richardson Brothers Electric for helping to sponsor our team.

Support our adult spelling bee team, the Fall Creek Stingers!
This years IPEI spelling bee is on
Sunday, November 15, 2009 2:00pm at the Ithaca High School
Meet the Fall Creek Stingers team!
Three ways you can help!
- Join us on Sunday at IHS gym and root for our team!
- Bring your change and help raise almost 50% of the entrance fee of $375. Richardson Brothers Electric is providing the $200 and we will be raising the other $175. 5th graders will be shaking a water jug in the morning collecting the money. We write lots of wonderful grants to IPEI and they have funded Fall Creek with THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS EACH YEAR to support such projects like: the Dance Residency, 4th graders reading books on tape, Kindergarten bears, Kids Discover the Trail trips for each grade, 1st graders trips to Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitative Home, and so much more.
- Think of spelling words for our team so they can practice!

Our spelling bee team made it to the championship round Sunday afternoon in the IPEI Adult Spelling Bee. The Fall Creek Stingers won the first round, which had five other teams. We then faced off against the winners of the other three rounds: The South Hill Spellicans, the FCS Family Buzzers and the Spellin’ Hellions from eCornell. But the word “triolet” stumped our team. (It’s an 8-line poem.) The Spellicans went down soon after. The Hellions then took the grand prize for correctly spelling miscellanea (a collection of diverse objects or writings.)
So congratulate our spellers: Principal Karen Keller and Parents Becca Gergely and Mary Ann Erickson. Our team is already talking strategy for next year’s bee!
And thanks to Lexi,

who was drafted to be the bee who escorted teams off the floor when they misspelled a word.
