Save Our School Archives

NOTE: On March 9, 2010, the ICSD Board of Education voted 5-4 to table the proposal to close Fall Creek School for 2010-11.  The following “Save Our School” material will remain online for possible future reference.

On Feb 2, 2010, the Board of Education proposed the possibility of closing Fall Creek School as a part of a plan to deal with a large budget deficit.  The Fall Creek PTA is determined to save our beloved school community and is working to find ways around this drastic measure.

Here are THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO NOW to save our school:

Educate Yourself

• Read Fact Sheet about the plan to close Fall Creek (updated 2/25)
• Read Talking Points: Impacts and Concerns linked to closing Fall Creek (updated 2/6)
• Read more about the SOS effort at the FallCreekWorks.org collaboration site
• Read the presentation material distributed at Feb 2 BOE meeting which includes current class sizes at all elementary schools and some projected budget numbers.  (added 2/8)
• Read the district’s budget documents
  • “Savings” from closing Fall Creek – from Superintendent 3/9
  • Budget Assumptions 2010-11
  • Use of Reserve Funds
  • Elementary Enrollment by Class
  • Contingency Budget Worksheet
• Read minutes from the school board:

Attend an Upcoming Meeting

• 7 p.m., Tuesday March 9 – next School Board meeting where public comment is allowed

Sign and Carry Petitions

• Sign and promote our online petition (added 2/7)
• Print and carry our paper petition (added 2/7)

Spread the Word

• Dowload and print out flyers to hand out and post: Keep Fall Creek Open flyer (added 2/7)
• Download the “Fall Creek Works” logo for use in posters, flyers, etc (added 2/7)
• Use email and social networking sites like Facebook to: inform people, encourage them to sign our petition, and enlist their help
• Go canvassing door-to-door with the petitions, flyers and other info from this page.

Join a Committee

• Join one of the Save our School Committees
• Register on the Fall Creek Works! collaboration site, where the working groups communicate
• Find committee meeting minutes

Write Letters

• Write letters to the editor with the help of the letter writing guide (added Feb 24)
• Participate in the Albany Write-A-Thon
• Write the Board of Education: budget@icsd.k12.ny.us
